Mediterranean Olive Tree

I love painting Mediterranean scenes and this old olive tree had so much character. Those gnarled twisted trunks tell a story of hundreds of years of sun and wind.

The colours are warm and golden — ochres and olive greens with that bright blue sky you only get down south. I used acrylics and let the brushwork follow the twists of the trunk and branches. The leaves are suggested with dabs of different greens rather than painted individually.

It is one of those paintings that makes you feel the warmth just looking at it. Perfect if you want a bit of Mediterranean sunshine on your wall.
