This one was a bit different for me. I used acrylics mixed with modelling paste to build up real texture in the waves and the sea spray. You can actually feel the surface of this painting which I think adds something special to a maritime scene.
The lifeboat crews are incredible people and I wanted to capture that sense of drama and bravery — the boat cutting through rough water with spray flying everywhere. The modelling paste let me create those thick peaks in the waves that you just cannot get with flat paint.
The sky was done in contrast with smooth thin layers to make the textured sea really pop.
