Music and art go hand in hand for me. I always have music on when I am painting and this jazz sax player just flowed out naturally one evening while listening to some classic jazz.
The colours are bold and warm — deep blues and rich golds — because that is what jazz feels like to me. The player is caught mid-performance with real energy and movement. I used acrylics which let me work quickly and build up those strong contrasts between light and shadow.
This is one of my larger pieces and one that I think captures that atmosphere of a dimly lit jazz club perfectly.
