I am always drawn to interesting doorways and this green one just had bags of character. Old buildings have so much texture and history in their surfaces.
The green of the door is set against warm stone walls with all the little imperfections and weathering that makes old buildings so interesting to paint. I used acrylics and really enjoyed working on the textures — the rough stone, the peeling paint, the shadows in the doorway.
Sometimes you come across a scene and you just know it will make a good painting. This was one of those moments.
