I love the canal network we have around Lancashire and this narrowboat scene is a tribute to that whole way of life. The colours on canal boats are always amazing — bold reds and greens and yellows.
I painted this in acrylics capturing the boat against the still canal water with all those beautiful reflections. The towpath and hedgerow frame the scene and give it that peaceful canal-side atmosphere.
There is something very British about canals and I think this painting captures that sense of slow living and quiet beauty that you get on the waterways.
